Who’s Playing Along with the NBA? On LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kawhi Leonard & The Rules on Color

I look Arab. Don’t I? Draft me!

I woke up this morning to a slew of Facebook posts by black people saying how ridiculous it was to have ever spoken of LeBron James as being anywhere near the greatness of Michael Jordan— after last night’s 4-1 San Antonio Spurs blow-out win over LeBron James’ Miami Heat team in the NBA Finals. These posts were given thousands of thumbs-ups — by other black people. White folks wouldn’t go to much trouble to disagree with that. But, white folks were spending their basketball-trash-talking minutes this morning fawning all over the greatness of the most international team (and, arguably the most explicitly anti-black team) in the NBA and, of course, the greatness of their beloved Great White Father, “Pop.” That latter title of the Spurs’ coach always sets to mind for me Adolf Hitler’s name for Nazi Germany as the “Fatherland.” But, I’ve digressed. What I’m going to do in this article is point out: 1) why so many black people show love to Jordan but throw glare on James, and; 2) why so many black people REALLY delighted in seeing the Spurs demolish the Heat.

No, the facts do not bear out that MJ and LBJ are widely separated by performance.

From the outstanding article on Black Men on Sports (BOSS), BOSS Sports | Vigalantee: LeBron, Show Black Pride Openly And You’ve Got MJ Beat:

“Michael Jordan’s team did not clear .500 in the regular season until his fourth season in the league, 1987-1988, when Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant came aboard and Doug Collins was coach….”

The Cav’s went to the playoffs [James’] 3rd season in the league and that was coming straight out of H.S. while Jordan came into the league after 2 years of college ball. James left Cleveland for Miami and has reached the Finals in all three years, winning twice. Through 10 years, Jordan holds a 3-2 edge in championships and Finals MVPs. James has a 4-3 edge in Finals appearances and regular-season MVPs. The numbers for these two all-time greats are through Jordan’s age-31 year and James’ age-28 year. “

Like most beliefs that do not reconcile with the facts, this one about Jordan far out-performing James is based upon bias. In this case, it is a bias caused by white folks to further their system of domination.

A lot of black people dislike LeBron James, essentially, because a lot of white folks dislike him: kinda the way black people disliked Malcolm X in his day because, they were told was an adequate reason, The Minister advocated “violence” ( self-defense).
In LBJ’s case, somehow it’s related to “how The Decision was done.” That was a product created by the white folks who control marketing. LBJ had every right to profit from it though all the money he made from it went to charity. James also had/has every right to be vocal about his confidence. When white men do it, it’s called “leadership.” When black men do it, it’s called “cockiness” (not surprisingly). Think about the word, “cocky.” Minister Malcolm was not a well-behaved Negro and neither is King James of America. I understand that we don’t like those of us whom our dominators don’t like because those rebels make us nervous. But, we gotta deal with that nervousness in a more constructive way. The rebels are right and the dominators are wrong.

Black people hate blackness, of course. We hate seeing it like a vain 50-yr-old hates looking into mirrors. We prefer to see ourselves as something different, something better, we believe, than we actually are. Most black people prefer to see ourselves as the mulattoes that have replaced us in mass media. This is often discussed as regards black women and hair weaves. But, witness it now in black men: A friend of mine told me this morning that she was watching game 5 last night in a lounge. My friend told me, “at a table next to mine were several young black men who talked about The Spurs having a black man from this country and that…how this one was mixed with this and that….they high-fived when the Spurs scored and one yelled for them to whoop them ‘black mutha fuckas asses'”

Hasn’t anyone noticed how the NBA has had, for the last 5-10 years, a much higher percentage of lighter-skinned black players than exists in the general population or that existed before that time? Professional sports have now become like any other job. Lighter skin can qualify you when ability alone cannot. This change in policy by the racists was quite deliberate and explained very well in a piece on Aljazeera, entitled, Far from Sterling: Rebranding racism in sports, written during the 2nd round of this year’s NBA play-offs:

“The National Basketball Association (NBA) has evolved into a global commodity. With fans all over the world, its top athletes are as recognisable as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Although a worldwide brand today, the NBA’s struggle has long been selling a “Black game” to a white audience stateside, and non-Blacks on the international front.

‘Less black and more professional’

Today 76 percent of NBA players are Black. Before the influx of international talent in the 1990s, the proportion of Black players was even higher. NBA owners, all of whom were white until 2002, set off to do the impossible: convert a predominantly Black NBA into a non-Black league.

First, league owners sought to transform the league’s image. Hip-hop culture was ubiquitous in the NBA, manifested by the music played at stadiums to the style of dress worn by its biggest stars. The corn-rowed Allen Iverson, who commonly wore baseball caps and medallions at press conference, replaced the suit-and-tie professionalism of Michael Jordan.

The shift was far more than merely aesthetic. Jordan personified the apolitical sensibility and trans-racial marketability NBA owners coveted. Jordan was said to ‘transcend race’, while Iverson’s slang resonated more with street kids than corporate sponsors. While Jordan faded away from race and politics, claiming: ‘Republicans buy sneakers, too’, Iverson represented the very culture and community NBA owners sought to clip.”

To “transcend race” means to not talk about racism (the domination of black people). That can include not talking much AT ALL and looking down when not looking at some task on the court. It’s not his fault and I’m not demeaning the Spur small-forward, Kawhi Leonard’s, talent. But, of course, his behavior and speech fit the latter specs. The same can be said of The Oklahoma City Thunder’s Reggie Jackson. Let me reiterate that I am NOT blaming Mr. Leonard or Mr. Jackson. They are being severely victimized and it shows. Victims are not to blame for their victimization. Period.

To be “more professional and less black” as referenced in the Aljazeera piece, means to as much as possible, literally and phenotypically be less black. The international list of black NBA players fits this bill more than it does not. But, it also includes many born right here in these 50 united states in North America. An Arab in Dubai watching an NBA game might think that Danny Green, Tim Duncan, Stephen Curry, or Blake Griffin are Arabs. And, a lot of black people would like to escape their black self-perception by seeing themselves in such players.

In other words, a lot of the dislike that black people have for the Miami Heat, as currently constituted, and much of the fondness we have for the Spurs is not because of the way the latter play team ball but is just plain colorism born of being dominated by non-black folk.

Increasingly, it’s becoming clear that Grandma’s house isn’t the place for our little ones to be when we cannot watch them if Grandma is going to have that TV on. Or, is going to buy white dolls given with hugs and kisses. Or, is going to fawn all over people with lighter-eyes, straighter hair, and/or lighter skin. Or, is going to have a picture of white Jesus or Fard Muhammad on her wall. ETCETERA.”’

An Ode to LeBron: Post-Script to Game 4 of June 2014

Athlete as Activist in the post-Obama world

Athlete as Activist in the post-Obama world

Just in case some are missing the dialogue between K.P. and I in the comments to the “Game-Maker’s” article, I decided to distill my thoughts Spurred by the very insightful Kushite Prince as a separate piece.

I hold open the hope that the Miami Heat can be the first team in history to win an NBA finals after being in a 3-1 deficit—while knowing what tall hope that is. How epic and fitting would THAT be? Yet, I am steeled against the probable outcome. What is really saddening to me is how so few black people are doing anything but viewing this as a comparison between the basketball greatness of LeBron James and Michael Jordan. So few Heat fans, even, appreciate the Ali-like importance of LeBron James. They cheer only his basketball feats.

It is true that James has not been as straight-forward in his speech against racism as Muhammad Ali or, football great, Jim Brown. But, the racism of James’ time is practiced in a MUCH less straight-forward way. “The Decision” took place when there was a black POTUS. So, I do equate James’ words and, especially his actions, to those of Brown and close to those of Ali. LeBron James’ public stance on Trayvon Martin’s murder and on Donald Sterling are follow-ups to his move to Miami. That move to Miami— including the much maligned “way it was done”—was a defiant refusal to not be as cocky as he was endowed by The Creator just to quell the sexual anxieties of non-black men. And, to add injury to psychic insult to said non-black folk, James married a gorgeous, undeniably black woman. (nod to LBM)

So, win or lose this year or any year, I will always admire what LeBron James has done. And, the admirable way that Bosh and Wade have held up under the heat has not been lost on me either.

It’s What We Game-Makers Like to Call a “Wrinkle”

Trifling and Tacky Racist Woman Mocking the injury of LeBron James. Reminiscent of the glee white women display in lynching photos.

LeBron James is an avid follower of The Hunger Games series.
So am I. If you’re not, this post may miss you.
This post will definitely miss you if you do not believe in conspiracies or if you do not believe that sport is important enough to racists (white dominators) to plan and execute schemes to effect their desired outcomes. It will miss you if you do not believe that there are no lengths to which they will not go. If that is you, reading this piece will be a waste of your time. Read no further.

Last night, the Miami Heat were beatin’ that ass; they were about to GET OFF and just dominate after all of that speculation that they didn’t really have to play any good teams in the weak Eastern Conference play-offs to get to the NBA Finals.

Coached by their beloved general “Pop”— the White Nation’s favorite Spurs were about to be embarrassed by those uppity Negroes like uppity District 12 tribute Katniss Everdeen was about to embarrass Pan-Am’s, white-rose-on-the-lapel-wearing, President Snow. When Katniss was about to just completely avoid all the gladiator sparring by hiking her way out to the camouflaged perimeter of the enclosed tropical arena, the Head-Game-Maker ordered the computerized control center to start a fire from which she had to run and in, so doing, back towards those who were hunting her.

NBA Finals. Big Business. But, the air-conditioning didn’t work last night in the Spurs arena. Heat for the Heat. The arena managers could not explain it. What a shame. The fans were fanning themselves with their programs even though they were just sitting there on their toosh.

Excessive perspiration and exertion, of course, drains the body of essential fluids that carry electrical impulses to the body; electrolytes. People with dense, fast-twitch muscles are likely to know the excruciatingly painful cramps that happens as a result. Elite sprinters have gone down on the Olympic track because of them. (I’m a fast-twitch muscled lady. So, I know the agony of these cramps.)

LeBron James, is probably the most densely muscled athlete in the NBA and has suffered leg cramps before in games. Being so durable, that’s about the only injury that hobbles him. With all the heat in that arena that wasn’t in uniform, it was not surprising that James got a cramp that took him out of play—in the final quarter of the game. After the first cramp, he was helped off the floor by the trainers and given fluids. (?) The question mark is there because he suffered a second cramp in that 4th quarter. But, this time, the standard protocol on an NBA team when a player gets a play-stopping cramp did not take place. NOTHING was done for LeBron the second time he cramped up. It was the oddest thing I have ever seen in an NBA game. He just stood there. There was no time-out called though play had stopped for an extended amount of time. He was not helped to the side-lines. He was not massaged nor given electrolytic fluids by the trainers. He was not even helped to the locker room after the game. His team mates seemed disoriented by it. Of course, they just headed down court for defense expecting the trainers to take care of it. When that didn’t happen and play had obviously stopped, a couple of his team mates, in an uncertain, confused state, went to lend a hand as James was hobbling best he could to the side-lines.

I have never seen anything like it in an NBA game. Rather than commenting on that, white folks are blaming and making fun of Mr. James. Gatorade officials are even joining in on the fun.

Plutarch Heavensbee, Head Game-Maker of Pan-Am and President Snow were discussing the threat that Katniss Everdeen posed in raising the morale of the oppressed districts and demoralizing those oppressing them. Heavensbee told Snow, “There’s a way we can still win. It’s what we game-makers like to call a ‘wrinkle.'” Fire, excessive heat in an arena, floods.

Morale is most important in war. And ALL is “fair” 🙂 in love and war. And all love requires war as this system is configured. Wrinkles and all. I have always been suspicious of Manny-Pacquiao-militant Spoelstra with the white dad. Y’all are free to call me a crazy mentally ill victim of racism or just a crazy nigg@r b!tch. Whatever. It’s not personal. It’s business.

If you have outrage that wasn’t sufficiently salved by this piece, you may find this radio broadcast helpful that my husband and I did on this matter.

Replay: Personal Fouls on Two of The Big Three On a Different Court

LeBron james' High efficiency eating on and off the court. Wade and Bosh are not pictured because this article is about their omissions.

LeBron James has a high efficiency rating on and off the court. Wade and Bosh are not pictured because this article is about their omissions.

On this blog, I have registered strong support for the actions taken three years ago by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. What the Miami Heat’s success represents is so big: black athletes challenging the unwritten rule that they should never be the architects of their own careers by making business moves without the approval of white folks. That’s my only interest in the Miami Heat or anything that occurs on a basketball court. However, the family court outcomes of Mr. Bosh and Mr. Wade are so infected with “Anti-Black Woman Rabies” (ABWR) that my support for them has the flu.

My support for Mr. James is immune from this flu right now. Mr. James will be marrying Savannah Brinson, his black high school sweetheart and the mother of his two sons, this September in this sunny city in which I reside (San Diego.) Sigh—-no invite for me.

Until yesterday, when I read the six-month-old headline , “NBA’s Chris Bosh Wins BIG Against Baby Mama,” affixed to an article about a child support battle between Mr. Bosh and Allison Mathis posted on NewsOne, I was all in. I knew of the highly contentious divorce and custody battle between Mr. Wade and his former wife, Siohvaughn Funches-Wade. I knew that Mr. Wade had been awarded full custody of their two sons and recall thinking that there was likely no justification for stripping this woman of even joint custody. But, at that time, Mr. Wade’s symbolism of black attempted manhood loomed so large for me that my concern about the outcome of that family court proceeding was tabled from my mental docket. And, anyway, I reasoned, his relationship with the very-brown-skinned Gabrielle Union was a demonstration of his high regard for his mirror-image counterpart. I have painfully reconsidered.

First, about Mr. Bosh: I was doused with the venom of the Anti-Black Female Rabies (ABFR) that was on display in the comments of the story about how an Orlando judge denied the petition of Allison Mathis, a black woman, to increase the child support payments Chris Bosh pays from $2,600/month to $30,000/month. The annual salary of Mr. Bosh is $17.5 million. That Mr. Bosh would contest such a request is heart-sickening to me. That his victory in that contest was met with the bleacher-shaking enthusiasm of so many black people is evidence to me of a virulent epidemic of ABFR that will render black people more disabled than we have ever been.

I know no one personally whose means are as great as that being discussed here. But, I do understand proportionality. I do understand that non-black women who marry and/or have babies with black men of such means are subject to little or no comment by the public that they do not “deserve” the sums they seek and that are almost always awarded.

There was no acrimonious contest by Russell Simmons or public outcry against the child support of $20,000/month that he pays for EACH of his two daughters with his former Asian-Black hybrid wife.

Football star, Tiki Barber, was faced with paying $150,000/mo in spousal and child support of four children with the Asian ex. This non-black mother of his children was not criticized for seeking it. It was Mr. Barber who was criticized for trying to low-ball his income in order to avoid paying it.

His Royal Arrogance, Kobe Bryant, found the mecca of humility to beg his Latina wife to take him back as the public shook its head in unison resignation that he would have to pay $365,000/mo in child support for his two daughters in addition to the $1 million/month in spousal support and half of their community property. There was a similar reaction, of course, to Tiger Woods’ pay-outs to the white nannie-turned-millionaire. Everyone knew Bryant and Woods would have to pay.

The focus was on the carelessness and misdeeds of the black men not the (non-black) mothers of their children.

A synopsis of how the Bosh case is the opposite:
In Florida, it is held by the courts that child support payments should be used to bring as much parity as possible in the living standard of both parents: “Children should share in the standard of living of both parents. Child support may therefore appropriately improve the standard of living of the custodial household to improve the lives of the children.” Fam.C. § 4053(f). Had the judge not ruled that Texas law applied rather than Florida law, this would have been the outcome for Mr. Bosh’s beautiful little girl with two black parents. There was enough evidence to establish Mr. Bosh’s residence in Florida but white folks have everything to gain in seeing to it that children born of two black parents are undervalued. And, many black people are so infected with ABFR that they enthusiastically support this agenda. Comments on the NewsOne story about Bosh v Mathis and elsewhere were typically, “What does the little girl need $30,000/month for?” and ” there is nooooooooooo way a woman would spend every cent of that $30,000 on her child every month.” I have no problem thinking of ways to constructively spend that monthly sum on a child. Black people have been caged so long that many of us cannot stop thinking small. But then, is a black mother supposed to stand in the corner with cinder smudged on her face as a mere maid to her child? Few black people demand this standard of similarly situated non-black women.

As for wealthy white men paying child support to the white mothers of their children? They bite their tongues and pay up— usually through settlement that is kept private. When the judge orders it, he curses under his breath and pays. Grasping the system of White/Light Domination is all about beholding contrasts.
While downing some sparkling water to settle my stomach, my attention turned to the other member of the Big Three who has been under-performing in the playoffs this year, DWade. Perhaps, I thought, there’s a connection. Perhaps the universe is demanding that the best black men do right by black women. There’s no use in upbraiding those terminally afflicted with ABFR. But, Mr. Wade and Mr. Bosh, I think, are made of more principle and character than most. Whom our God loves, s/he corrects. Mr. Wade, I believe, has some correcting to do with his former black wife, Siohvaughn Funches-Wade. Wealthy white men and white judges rarely, in the end, deprive white women of even shared custody. There is nothing that I have read that Siohvaughn Funches-Wade is alleged to have done that equals what white Kim Mathers or white Britney Spears did or that was not also done by white Katie Holmes, white Nicole Kidman, or, for that matter, the black Mr. Wade himself. None of these people are behaving with complete virtue in these matters. Yet, all but this black woman have retained at least shared custody of their children while everybody is quick to label black Siohvaughn Funches-Wade as a “wacko” who was rightfully stripped of hers.

“Anti-black woman rabies” is a virulent, highly infectious, reason-resistant social contagion. I’m old enough to remember when everybody thought that Mike Tyson’s first wife, Robin Givens, was a conniving nut when she revealed that Tyson’s mood-swings often crystallized into swings at her face. And, then, he bit Evander Holyfield’s ear off. Givens was quietly acquitted of lying about Tyson’s behavior. But, no one ever apologized publicly to the woman.

The presumption of evil is always on black women. Everybody justifies our mistreatment as deserved. Sound familiar? Black people, male and female, often recognize that fact when it is directed at black people generally and black men particularly–but not when it is particularized toward black women.

Mr. Wade, your book about black fatherhood notwithstanding, white folks tricked you. Your children did not win when you were awarded sole custody of them. I hope you and Mr. Bosh will resolve to do better by these black women and, by extension, your black children. Then, just maybe, your basketball gifts will be restored to you during your current series with the Spurs. I’m looking for Mr. Wade to lead on this one as I expect that Mr. Bosh’s current non-black wife compromises his logic. However, I’m rooting for you both to triumph as men in all of your affairs.

Biblical. And, yes, in this case, I do mean literally. For those who know, you know.

LeBron James, NBA Champion MVP poses with Anderson Silva’s two sons. James has two very brown sons of his own.
Silva defended his UFC title for a record 10th time last night in the biggest fight in UFC history. This year, James’ team, The Miami Heat, won the most politically important NBA championship ever. See my previous posts on that. White folks hate them both.

Lebron James and the Hunger Games

Posted in Counter-racism with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 22, 2012 by CREE-EIGHT

Adulation for and Celebration of the Miami Heat winning the 2012 NBA championship has been muted. Predictably.

Erik Spoelstra, the Haymitch of the Heat?

White folks are pretending that this NBA finals win is not the biggest in the history of the league. No one is supposed to talk about it for what is is: Three black males, with genius talent, accepted the challenge of walking through the gate called “free agency” without permission from massuh and making a run for what they thought the free colored man’s promised land. They did this while in the cross-hairs of marksmen perched in trees throughout the landscape and, still, brought their crops to market. Those were long odds that were not supposed to be beaten. Las Vegas odds makers sure didn’t have the Bosh/James/Wade combo standing at the end of these Hunger Games. White folks like their prey to have a sporting chance. Ya know, “tally-ho” and all that. But, when precisely handicapped competitors actually convert the sporting chance into an escape, these maniacal predators seethe and sulk. And, like all tyrants, they create a threatening atmosphere against celebrating anything they don’t like. Then, to design a field with that “sporting chawnce” (British accent) that is far less likely to yield more than the occasional amusing fluke, they have high-level semi-secret summits like: NBA season lock-outs, rules change committee meetings, and conversations that have no formal acknowledgement.
So, Heat fans, a repeat, let alone a “three-peat,” for the Miami ensemble is highly unlikely.

Sportscasters and writers are busy giving the Miami Heat Coach, Erik Spoelstra, his credit for winning the league championship this season. But, he deserves less credit than the Hunger Games’ negligent coach, Haymitch, for the triumph of Katniss. Spoelstra’s glaringly absent smiles during his team’s successes have become his trademark. This feature has been attributed by various sportscasters to his goal-focused disposition. But, I HIGHLY suspect that Spoelstra’s lack of apparent joy in the successes of the Heat is much simpler than that. I suspect that Spoelstra’s assigned role was to ensure that the Heat did not win. Spoelstra, with his white father and brown skin is quite eager in his anti-blackness, me thinks. And, therefore, the perfect pick to carry out this dicey assignment. But, I think he got “made” (spy-talk for “exposed”) sometime between the end of last season and this year’s finals. That’s when the players–certain players— started coaching themselves and Spoelstra probably had to stop withholding playing minutes for the best combos and to stop directing play in ways that neuter talent. It is poetic that legendary and very black Bill Russell, the only player-coach to win a championship since black players have been in the league, presented the Finals series MVP award to LeBron James last night. It was also fitting that Spoelstra felt compelled to say during the arena celebration last night that, “Everyone knows I’m a Manny Pacquiao fan.” Yeah, Mr. Spoelstra, everybody also knows that rabid Pacquiao fans are about as fond of Lebron James as they are of Floyd Mayweather.

Congratulations to Mr. James and to Mr. Wade and to Mr. Bosh. But, as John Carlos and Tommie Smith can tell you, it’s just beginning. So, always watch your accountants and call on the name of the Most High. (Geezus not being it—from the evidence.)

The whole purpose of The Hunger Games is to provide an entertaining, transparent submission. As, Haymitch told Katniss, “They’re not happy with you. You showed them up.”
Mr. Wade and Mr. Bosh, you might want ask Mr. James to borrow his copy of the book if he marked it up and a discussion or two might be in order if you haven’t already done that.

Best wishes, sirs, as you and yours breathe and make moves off the basketball court.

David Stern and Associates are Startin Somethin Beyond Basketball

Posted in Counter-racism with tags , , , , , , , , , on October 28, 2011 by CREE-EIGHT

My biological father was the first person to help me find the logic of countering racism. And, my Pops is second only to Neely Fuller, Jr. in his effectiveness in doing so. At the beginning of last year’s NBA season, I was telling my dad that I was dismayed how few black people seemed to understand the magnitude of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh successfully executing their plan to play on the same NBA team. He said to me, quite nonchalantly, while munching on some pecans, “The owners are gonna lock the players out next season. This is not about money. It’s about power. They’re going to say it’s about something else— but it’s not. They (the white men/ Racist Man) have to stop dat. At any cost.” Then, with a cheek full of pecans, he sat down at his computer to work on his algorithm—–uhhh, no, I can’t tell you what the algorithm is for.

NBA Cancels Games Through Nov. 30

by The Associated Press

October 28, 2011

NBA Commissioner David Stern has canceled all NBA games through Nov. 30.

The move came Friday after labor negotiations broke down for the second time in a week.

“It’s not practical, possible or prudent to have a full season now,” Stern says.

After two days of making some progress on salary cap issues, the two sides brought the revenue split back into the discussion and got stuck on both.

Owners are insistent on a 50-50 split of revenues, while players last formally proposed they get 52.5 percent, leaving them about $100 million apart annually. Players were guaranteed 57 percent in the previous collective bargaining agreement.

No further talks have been scheduled.

Broken pipe-dreams for really, really tall, hard-working, goal-oriented, black males with no jobs who haven’t even gotten out of high school or junior college, yet. Not to mention the NBA athletes who have seen the world a bit and are gonna want white people to make more Magic Johnson-like room for them but are gonna find out that their money ain’t worth as much as they thought.

Somethin’s gonna happen.

That’s not my Pop’s prediction. It’s mine. I could be incorrect. I sure missed the call on Troy Davis. But, whateva we do, y’all: NO RIOTS.

Racist Man/Woman are looking for a reason to kill large numbers of us. They gonna kill some and I ain’t sayin not to defend yourself but riots ain’t gonna hurt no one but us.

Riots are a set up. This is all serious theater for Racist Man and Racist Woman. Planet of the Apes, London. Let’s spoil part 3 for them. Mmmm k.
